Today I finished this applique picture of my daughter Kate and our cat Kristy. I'm experimenting with "drawing" with machine embroidery and using just a touch of color in the background. The main figure is machine appliqued.
I have a few more projects in process and I hope to share them soon!
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Fabulous! I thought this was a self-portrait until I read the print! How ever did you capture the likeness?
ReplyDeleteYou used the machine on the figure, did you hand stitch the sofa, lamp, etc??
Gee wiz, thank you all for your comments! No, it is definitely not a self portrait - I am not at all this thin!
ReplyDeleteThe black stitching is done with heavier weight thread by machine.
I love this! It's such a sweet picture of Kate and Kristy...and a really great showcase of your painterly skills in fabric. Did you fuse the fabric bits before satin stitching them? and did you draw the lines in advance and then sew over them for the window, couch, etc.?
ReplyDeleteHi Quiltcat,
ReplyDeleteI fused the figure on a teflon sheet before fusing the whole thing to the background. I drew the lines with a silver quilt marking pencil before stitching.
Thanks for your comment - I'm working on another picture using this technique!
This is stunning, what a concept using just a bit of color. Great work! It shows off the subject so well yet draws one into the picture.
