Of course it isn't finished. I totally underestimated how long it takes to make something like this, but I did have a completed square to show her. I'm hoping to have it done in time for her March birthday.
The name of the quilt is Bento Box, which I thought was appropriate since Kate loves Japanese food.
Also, these are her favorite colors.
It's created by making a block of Courtyard Steps, then splitting that into four sections and mixing up the sections to make new squares. Already I've messed up a bit, since the longer outer strips should be
outside of the longer inner strips, but I didn't find that out until I had several squares made and I was not about to rip out stitches. We are not quilt experts in my family and I think it will be fine!
Tomorrow I'll be meeting with friends who are quilt experts and I hope they will help me determine whether I should put sashing between the squares.
Already I'm starting the year with a new adventure!
Will I persevere?
For Kate, definitely.
Judy,
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you! I have been thinking of you since reading your post of the Christmas trip. The words that come to mind are Joy and Rapture. How blessed to be with those you love in such remarkable circumstances.
I felt a renewed sense of being drawn to you after hearing that your daughter has a March birthday-- Anne's birthday is in March. And the greens and blues you've chosen for her Bento Box quilt are definitely in Anne's favorite palette. Wow.
When I am frozen by the fear of imperfection or hear the voice of self doubt in my head, I try to remember the line I once heard that goes something like this: Sing your song, for the forest would be a very still place if only the bird with the best voice sang.
Sing your songs, Judy, for those of us who hear your melodies are buoyed by your tunes and humming along joyful in the good company.
Good for you! I bet the quilt will be wonderful; it is already looking lovely with your color selections so keep going. Kate is a lucky daughter to be sure:)
ReplyDeleteThis quilt will be lovely! Such gorgeous colors (my mom's right, those are in my color palate!). How exciting for you to be starting the new year with a new adventure. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteAnd those snow photos in your previous post are really beautiful.
Thank you so much for your last comment on my blog. It moved me to tears. I think you and all the lovely work you do are an inspiration as well! I'm so glad we connected during AEDM.
Well done on the quilting! That is something else I need to add to my to do list!!! I love the little bunny in your new header! x
ReplyDeleteI´d say you´re taking a chance to get addicted to quilting! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI´ve think absolute precision is not really important. I leave that to the industry and to (the majority of) professional quilters.
After having watched a few (scaring) videos on FMQ I´ve bumped into one which made all the difference to me. The lady said: "after the work is done no one will care about one larger stich here or there".
Practice leads to excelence; the pursuit of perfection leads to disappointment first and to UFOland at the end of the line.
Visit the Liberated Quilters ( http://liberatedquilters.blogspot.com/) before you get started quilting today!
Have fun!
You can do it. Love the fabrics you are using. That is a popular pattern. I have not made one though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling the video didn´t work. You tube says it´s been withdrawn under a copyright claim.
ReplyDeleteAt this time the whole word ha seen it. It was about the "golden voice", the homeless person who is the most recent celebrity these days. His 15 minutes of fame are lasting more than that. Good for him!
