Lace collar Ladies

It's funny what inspires us to be creative.
I was going through my stash of stickers and found
these Martha Stewart labels. I loved the edges and thought to myself,

these would make lovely little lace collars!

I made little faces to go with them, chose papers and colored pencils.
and came up with these little ladies. And I couldn't resist naming them
and adding a few 'tongue-in-cheek words about each one!
I also added little 'satin' mats from the dollar store!

Betty
Betty smells like lavender, gives you a hug every time she sees you,
listens to your problems and tells you how wonderful you are.
She makes the world's best chocolate chip cookies and,
although she's not that much older than you,
you want to call her Grandma.

Maria
Her beauty is - well, annoying - but she has a heart of gold,
so you try to overlook her assets.
She cooks like a dream, is generous to a fault
and can be very funny.
Just don't expect to be the focus of attention
when you walk down the street with her.

Karen
She looks like a young girl, but is actually 33.
This is the only dress she owns, and she would prefer to be in jeans
and a tee shirt. She has series tickets to the Red Sox, a golden retriever
and a cape cod house she painted herself.
She drives a jeep and is happiest when fishing with her two nephews
at the family cabin on the lake.

Priscilla
What can we say?
She has been treated like a princess her whole life,
so she see nothing wrong with
wearing a tiara to the supermarket!

Nancy
She loves to read psychological mystery books,
has three cats and, although she doesn't smoke,
has an extensive collection of ceramic ashtrays.
She is down-to-earth and completely honest,
and could be the best friend you ever had.

As you can see, I became quite caught up in these ladies.
Do they remind you of anyone you know?

Hope you are enjoying a terrific day!

Happy Easter, Happy Spring!

I remember Easter mornings, when I was a little girl,
when we children would wear our very best (often new)
clothes for church, and then a big family dinner would follow.

In those days we wore hats and white gloves and shiny white shoes with straps!
This ATC I made years ago reminds me of those "Sunday Best" days.
Our family is scattered now, but we are enjoying a beautiful,
sunny day and I hope you are too!

Here's wishing all of my friends

A Very Happy Easter!!

Printing with my Gelli Plate and Noticing Spring

This morning I had a little over an hour to experiment
with my Gelli Plate, so I used a limited pallet of pale yellow,
orange and spring green and set to work - or rather, play!

As I used textured paper, stencils, lace and cut-outs,
the time flew by and I barely had time to clean up before going out!
I did have a motivation for doing this today -
tonight is the beginning of a new class I'm taking, Collage
and Mixed Media. These papers will be exciting to use!

We awoke this morning to a surprise layer of snow
on the ground, but by afternoon most of it had melted.
I always love to watch the progress of our forsythia bushes
in the spring, and the snow didn't harm them at all!

Soon these bushes will be laden with yellow blossoms!

Hope you are having a terrific spring day!

An Early Spring Day

So nice to see the sun this morning!
Temperatures are still cool, so we look for Spring
wherever we can find it!

A bouquet of tulips from a friend...

pansies waiting on my windowsill before being planted outside...

a project finally finished - flowered pillows for our sofa...

Angus enjoying the sunshine on our still chilly porch...

Rosie playing in the kitchen, getting treats the hard way…

At the moment, a cold has stalled me, but I've been working steadily
lately on downsizing my fabric and paper stash, and am finally seeing
results! I'll share my newly neat and tidy art room with you soon!

Meanwhile,

I'm wishing you a lovely spring day!!

Nuno Felting Workshop

Recently I took a workshop in nuno felting with some friends
We used silk chiffon and wool roving to create beautiful,
lightweight scarves through the process of wet felting.
If you are interested in this, there are many online tutorials for nuno felting.
Here we are, laying out our designs .

After much wetting, rolling and pounding, our designs became felted
and enmeshed with the silk organza, resulting in a pretty scarf.
This is mine!

A fun day with friends and a new technique learned!

Hope you've had a great weekend!

Un Beau Jour d'Avril!

I couldn't help myself! I love the French language,
although it's been decades since I studied it in High School!
"A Fine April Day"and it is indeed that!

The sun is shining, the temperature is rising and I'm
celebrating with some mums from the florist
popped into my mum's milk glass vase!!
What could be better?

I hope that everyone who reads this is having a very good day!

Sending you smiles!!!
