Marlene

For today, a severe looking Marlene...
I'm pretty sure I'll go back and remove that part from her hair
and maybe turn up the corners of her mouth a bit.
But at least I finished this much today!

Hope you've had a good day!

Marie

I was going through old photos today and came across
a candid shot of my mother which I've always loved and decided
to do this drawing of her.

In the photo, she was sitting off to the side at a party
and seemed to look up as the photographer snapped her picture.
I wonder if my father took the photo and whether he was struck
by her lovely bone structure and her soft, dark hair.

I loved her so much
and still miss her every day,
even after ten years.

May

A girl named "May"
after this new month.

So nice to see
new leaves on the trees
and to hear
the conversations of birds.
Spring at last!

Sandy

"Sandy felt that this had been her worst day yet!"

Poor Sandy! I did this drawing after a difficult day, as I was feeling a bit sorry for myself.
Making such an exaggerated expression allowed me to indirectly poke fun at myself.
Art therapy, perhaps? Even I had to laugh!

Hope you've had a great weekend!

Nikki

Today's face came from a little sketch I made in a notebook a while ago.

"Nikki"

I also worked on Gail from yesterday's post, editing her forehead and adding earrings. Usually,
once a drawing is finished, I don't look back. It is what it is!

A drawing a day has been enjoyable - I really like to make up characters and
I usually can come up with an idea quickly. Executing the drawing is more
difficult. Using colored pencils is my easiest go-to, but I'm not thrilled with
the rough texture I seem to get. I'm working in a mixed media sketchbook and
it may not be the best paper for this. But I do want to try collage, stitched portraits
and cut paper faces. All of these take more planning and time, so I'll have to
not leave my "daily face" until late in the day as I have been doing!

To those who stop by to read my posts, thanks very much.
I hope you're enjoying a wonderful weekend!

Gail

Today was a very beautiful sunny day, much appreciated after two days of rain.
I sat out on the porch and worked on this picture as two sleepy cats snoozed beside me.
As always, I left taking a photo until just before the daylight disappeared, and,
when I transferred the photo to my computer, I realized that I had not finished
her pencil sketched earrings!
So, here is Gail, sans earrings and I'll finish her up tomorrow!

Hope you've had a good day!
