AEDM Day 6 - Last Burst of Glory

Today I'm posting photos I took looking out my back porch windows in late afternoon.
Most trees are practically bare, but these are having a last burst of glory!

Hope your day has been glorious in its own way!

AEDM Day 5 - Tree Silhouette

Last night I worked on this silhouette of trees I had started a few weeks ago.
I had hand painted the sky and sewn down the trunks and branches previously,
then it needed "leaves" which I cut out randomly. I want to make the edges less "tight"
so I'll cut out some individual leaves for the edges. All of this is fused to the background.
I'll also be adding a foreground. The white is the cotton flannel I use as a base.

And, as I promised, here are more photos from the International Quilt Festival
in Houston, from which I just returned.

Hope you're having a wonderful day!

Houston and Art Every Day Month, Day 4

I'm back from the International Quilt Festival in Houston and just beginning Art Every Day month.

On the plane ride home from Houston, I did this sketch of my 2 cats in the kitchen.

The quilt show was amazing, just amazing, and I'll share some photos a few at a time.

Inside of this entrance was a world of beauty, imagination and skill which I'll remember for a long time.

Of all the many, many beautiful quilts on display, this was my favorite.

I'll show more photos every day this week.
Meanwhile, a big hello to my fellow Art Every Day participants!
Thank you, Leah, as always for hosting this inspiring event!

Have an art-filled week!!

An Art-Filled Weekend!

Last Saturday was a beautiful, sunny, Fall day - perfect for two art events in our town.
Both took place on the same street, so the flow of traffic benefitted both!

I had a table at the "Artisan Affair" show, which had painting, ceramics, pottery and jewelry!

It was held in the Press Room of our local paper, The Daily Item,
with newspaper presses and machinery in the background. Very funky!

I had worked hard to create some new work, and mixed with older work.
it made a decent display.

These are some newer landscapes...

It was worth the effort, because I sold 5 pieces of work, which came as quite a surprise!
(Although it was hard to let go of some pieces that I was particularly fond of!)

This is the lady who had the table next to mine - gorgeous pottery!
I bought the red bowl on the right side of the table!

Across the street and further down the street, our Arts Collaborative had two gallery displays
and all kinds of entertainment!

A demonstration by my friend Andrea on using a Gelli Plate for
fabric and paper printing! I want to try this!

And in the evening, a reception for the artists and some beautiful
music from a very talented singer, Molly Mae!

It was a fantastic weekend, and I'm so glad to have been part of such
exciting efforts to promote the arts!

Hope you're having a
terrific weekend!

Working in Chaos

I'm working on some new landscapes, but...

our house has been in an uproar since May, with 2 bathrooms being renovated, a complete kitchen re-do, and, now, wall and woodwork painting being done in the main parts of the house. My husband and I were always do-it-yourselfers, but, as he travels more for work and we hit our mid sixties, we've decided to do everything that needed to be done in one fell swoop. Fortunate? Yes. Privacy? No!

This past weekend, we did tackle one project - refurbishing our kitchen table. It had a dark green pedestal and the chairs were falling apart, so we repainted the pedestal and bought new chairs - voila!

It's a bit disconcerting to work on artwork with so much commotion in the house, but I'm trying to get a few pieces done before the October show and our Arts Collaborative's exhibit on the same weekend!
I'm really not worrying about selling work so much as having a nice presentation.

Hope your week is going well!

An Upcoming Show

I've been working on some fiber artwork for an event, which is coming all too soon!

I finished up these two pieces, which were also in a recent show for our Arts Collaborative...

"Anne"  machine stitching, applique, colored pencil

"Meditation"  fiber, painted fabric, needle felting, hand embroidery, natural fibers

and I even had them professionally framed for the upcoming show!

I have several more pieces in progress and will share them soon,

Have a wonderful weekend!!
