Sketchbook - Day 1

And so it begins, my new endeavor to work in a sketchbook every day. My drawing skills are limited, my painting skills even more so, but drawing is the basis of my fabric art, so this will give me practice.

I'm limiting myself to 45 minutes maximum every day.

This sketchy painting was done with marker, watercolors and pencil. It's a start, anyway!

Hope you're having a great day!

Painting and Flowers

I'm still doing my best to paint as often as I can for the month of May, although I haven't done that much!
This is a cat figurine that symbolizes good fortune, which my husband brought back from one of his many business trips to China. It's rather a silly painting - the doily looks like it's hanging off the edge of the table  but it was a quick effort with not much thought, so it makes me laugh. I do love the rich blue of the background, with a bit of purple mixed in. I used gouache paints and it took about a half hour.

These are photos of the beautiful flowers my daughter sent for Mothers Day.
I really must do a watercolor or fabric picture of some of them - they are really gorgeous!!

I've been a bit out of sorts lately, but checking out my favorite blogs, plus getting involved with Pinterest (thank you, Andrea) has been fun. Today was a beautiful, breezy day and I spent some time out on the porch with the kitties. So beautiful!

Hope you have had a great day and a great week so far!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Painted Floor Cloth

"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." ~ John Lennon
I was doing well with my January wall hanging until life intervened.
The good news is that I unexpectedly gained two new tutoring students this past week. I work with children in grades K through 3 and help them with reading and language arts. Unfortunately, I needed to do some parent consultations and preparations which left me with less time for sewing!
But the wall hanging is close to completion and will be ready to show here sometime soon.
I did finish a craft/painting project which I had started at a floorcloth workshop given by a member of my fiber arts group. Diana shared her studio space and four of us went to town painting, stenciling, layering and printing. Each person created a very different piece and I was definitely in the mood for bright flowers! It still needs to be polyurethaned, but I'm happy with the results and will place it in front of my kitchen sink!
I haven't just painted for years and it was so much fun!!
