AEDM Day 12

I've been taking a class in quilted collage for the last three weeks
and I'm just now finishing up this fabric landscape with some hand embroidery.

I'm planning to add some color in the foreground and some birds in the sky.
I love birds and have decided to add them to my work on a regular basis.

This tree in our backyard absolutely touches my soul at this time of year,
especially late in the day when the setting sun sets it aglow.
Our entire porch fills with golden color
and I feel like it's such a gift.

I hope that, if you're stopping by,
you are having a wonderful weekend!

AEDM Day 7

I have two things to share today...
I'm working on this fabric appliqué picture, had it taped on a porch window,
and loved how it looked against the trees in my yard! I'll reveal it tomorrow, I hope!

Also, I finished up this machine embroidered portrait,
and thought of the perfect caption for it, in view of what's going on in our country lately!

"George has voted early and does not want to hear another word about politics!"

My feelings exactly!!

Have a wonderful rest of the day!

AEDM Day 3

Still at it - so far so good!
Today I worked on 2 things, but I'll save one to show another day.
(Gotta stretch things out!)

I started another stitched portrait on the sewing machine.
This lady will be named after I complete her - I have to see how her personality develops.

I usually touch up the facial features with hand embroidery, and I'll add some color.

Just a quick post.
Thanks so much for visiting!

What I've been Working On

Hello Friends!
Last Thursday we had our Arts Collaborative show, on the same night that our town celebrated "Fright Night". Our high school students carved what looked like a hundred or more pumpkins and they were lit and displayed on the expansive outside stairs of our library. An awesome display! (Of course I forgot my camera!)
Our show was at the former Gas and Light building downtown, which is going to be used as a Cultural Exchange in our town. A new G & L building was erected and this old building is going to be a wonderful resource. Our show was the first event held there and very exciting!!
Part of the night was a chance for little trick or treaters to visit local stores and get candy, so we had a flow of tiny princesses and superheroes milling about, along with their parents. A fun night!

In preparation for the show, I worked on a couple of older pieces, adding new elements and borders. This first floral is above in the header of my blog, as it looked before. I added more leaves, embroidery and beads, and a new white outer border.

This second piece was done quite a while ago, and I added embroidery, beading and appliqué in the foreground. I remember spending a long time machine embroidering this picture, but I think the hand work adds texture and interest.

This piece never quite got finished. You can see the thread where I left off beading. The elements are ready, the vase shape needs to be modified, and all I have to do is finish it before I tuck it away!!

Now that the show is over, I really want to take a breather. I feel myself wanting to try some different things, different materials, different subjects. I'll still keep up my sketchbook and will share with you whatever I decide to do.
To my friends and readers, you are just a handful of people, but very dear to me. I really appreciate your comments and friendship. Thank you!!

Have a wonderful week!!!

An Upcoming Show

I've been working on some fiber artwork for an event, which is coming all too soon!

I finished up these two pieces, which were also in a recent show for our Arts Collaborative...

"Anne"  machine stitching, applique, colored pencil

"Meditation"  fiber, painted fabric, needle felting, hand embroidery, natural fibers

and I even had them professionally framed for the upcoming show!

I have several more pieces in progress and will share them soon,

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Sketches

I've been spending the days lately organizing my fabric and threads, but like to sketch when I'm watching TV at night. Sometimes these sketches become embroideries, sometimes not.

Here's a typical evening scene - Rosie on the back of my chair, chirping for me to pat her.
She refuses to sit on any person's lap, but likes to be patted if you don't look at her!
Do we need the cat psychiatrist here for a visit?

...Which brings me to this imaginary portrait of me with my kitties-
imaginary because (a) they would never sit so peacefully together,
and (b) Rosie would never be sitting so sweetly on my lap!!

And finally, a little machine embroidered sketch. I'm practicing going around tight curves because I'd like to try machine stitched handwriting. I need lots of practice!!

Hope your Monday has been a good one!

Work in Progress

I've been working on this new piece, a combination of applique and machine embroidery. The violets are cut from handpainted fabric, as well as some of the leaves. The underlying leaves are outlined with stitches and 'painted' with watercolor colored pencils.
I have more details to add. Hope to have it finished by Friday!

Very wet and soggy here!!
Looking forward to seeing sun again before the end of June!!

Have a great week!

Young Woman With Cat

Today I finished this applique picture of my daughter Kate and our cat Kristy. I'm experimenting with "drawing" with machine embroidery and using just a touch of color in the background. The main figure is machine appliqued.
I have a few more projects in process and I hope to share them soon!
Hope everyone is having a great week!
