A Joyful Visit, Part 2

While in NY City last weekend, my husband, daughter and I

 decided to visit the 9/11 memorial.

The two memorial waterfalls and reflecting pools are set within

the footprints of the twin towers.

We thought the design was beautifully conceived and we spent

some time reading the names of the victims along the edges and 

reflecting on the solemnity of the site.

We also viewed the recently completed Freedom Tower,

now named One World Trade Center, the tallest building in NYC.

On Sunday morning, after brunch, we visited 

the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU's Tisch School,

where our daughter directs a summer program.

It was Family Day in honor of Father's Day, and there were

several activities prepared for kids and their dads.

At the Nerdy Derby, dads set up tracks while kids
designed and made miniature cars...

It was so much fun watching the little ones set their cars in motion,

hoping that they would stay on the tracks!!

In the woodworking shop, kits were available for 

building dad a toolbox.

Kate and Bill sanded the wood (I helped), then Kate took a family photo,

digitized it, and they used a laser scanner to inscribe the sides of the box!

Another fun activity was the banana piano!

Fruit was used as a conductive medium, and the bananas,

and even the flowers and asparagus, could be tapped to play music!

You can imagine kids' reactions to this!!

After a busy weekend, we said our goodbyes, and 

Bill and I returned home on the Amtrak Acela Express train.

We chose the "Quiet Car" - no cell phone use allowed!

A lovely trip!
