Rosie and Angus' Big Adventure

This, of course, is a fictional story. You can create your own article here!

Here's wishing everyone who reads this

a very enjoyable weekend!!

See you soon!

Paper Portrait: Emily

I love to make "portraits" of imaginary people and then create little stories about them.

I'd like you to meet Emily.

She's a sweet girl, rather shy, but a very loyal friend to those who get close to her.

She plays the flute, writes poetry and likes to draw pictures of wild flowers.

And, once in a while, if you're at the park on a Saturday morning,

you'll see Emily, wearing jeans and a baseball cap,

speed skating with her friend Duane.

There's more to Emily than meets the eye!

Weekly Word

Just a thought...

                                A is for...

It's all around us - we have only to notice it.

"Too often we visit the well of divine abundance with a teacup instead of a bucket."

                                                                                                                Elinor MacDonald

Finally...

I'm happy to have my new banner up. It took me forever to finish it! Sometimes the simplest things take the longest! I knew that Angus and Rosie would set the right tone for my revised blog.
What do you think?
So, I've been cleaning and organizing my materials, and that means going through boxes of papers! I was amazed at all the ideas I've come up with and never developed. Here is just a sampling of all the lists and sketches I found:

My new goal is to execute some of these ideas and others, and share them on my blog. I'm planning to work in series and post more often. Wish me luck!

On a different note, I had happy news yesterday during my yearly visit to the oncologist - 16 years cancer free! (I had breast cancer way back then.) Always a reason to celebrate!

I treated myself to a bouquet of flowers, shown here on a doily made by my grandmother.

I wish everyone who reads this a very lovely weekend!

See you soon!

Changes are Coming!

I'm working on some changes which will take my blog in a new direction,

and this will happen very soon!

Meanwhile, I snapped this picture recently when my husband pointed out the fact

that the lower windows on our porch are like high definition TV for cats!

On that particular day there were at least 15 little birds in the bushes

and Angus and Rosie were quite excited!!

See you soon with some new ideas!

Thanks for visiting!

Glorious September

"The breezes taste

Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
 A morning haze."
John Updike, September

I love September so much! It always feels like an exciting time to me - new beginnings, a foretaste of Autumn, a shifting of light. It probably stems back to the fact that I always loved school. New crayons (although back then we had the 8 crayon box in my family), new school supplies, a new uniform for parochial school, and a feeling of expectation.

I was the dorky shy kid who got good grades and lived for my teacher's praise. Later, I taught kindergarten and then second grade, and I think I was as excited then for the start of school as when I was a child. Oh, I know it's sad that summer is coming to an end and some people feel down when autumn approaches, and I feel bad for you. I wish you could feel the tingly sense of excitement that I have. Go smell some crayons and pencils, picture the gorgeous fall foliage to come and enjoy the change in the air!

Here's wishing everyone a Happy September!!

After Irene

The house is still standing,

the sun is shining,

and all is well.

Do I seem obsessed with my hydrangeas?

I just love them as they take on their late summer colors!

And if I seem to be having an identity crisis,

(as I keep changing my profile photo!)

it's because my eyes get all squinty when I smile and

I feel like they look closed in most pictures!

Ah, well!

Bill will be home tonight and all will be right in my world!

Hope your world is a happy one today!
