AEDM Day 10 - A Great Reception

Last night was the reception for my show at Silver Clay Gifts in Wakefield, MA.
I can honestly say that it was a lot of fun.
Lots of friends showed up, good food and drinks, and I even sold a picture!

My husband got a better photo of the stitched picture of my parents,

and, in the end, I was very pleased at how everything turned out.
Special thanks to Marcia Boston, owner of Silver Clay, for giving me this opportunity.
The exhibit will be up for the rest of November!

AEDM Day 9 - At Rest!

Yesterday I worked nonstop on finishing up my parents' portrait and other pictures for my exhibit.

It was such a gloomy day and my camera setting was not right, so these are the best photos I got!
The fabric picture did come out well, though, and I was pleased with it.
It was a very tender experience, creating this tribute to my mom and dad, who died 5 1/2 years ago.

I also freshened up this picture I did a while ago of 5-year-old me!

And, to complete my collection of family portraits, I did a bit more work on daughter Kate!

My plan is to make a 4th picture of my husband when he was a boy and then I'll have a nice grouping!

Tonight is a reception for me and local children's book author Jeanne Freeman, who will be signing copies of her book, Katie's Pond. The exhibit and reception are at Silver Clay Gifts, 39 Albion Street in Wakefield, MA. I'll take better pictures and post them, but for today, I'm planning rest!
My thanks to Marcia Boston for hosting this exhibit and reception!

Hope everyone has a fabulous day!!

AEDM Day 7 - Oh My!

I just finished up this piece for my exhibit, and had a lot of fun making it.
I want to leave the viewer guessing - is she surprised? About to burst out laughing?
Blowing a kiss?

Ever since I made Marilyn and Audrey in October, I've become enamored of
making glamorous ladies! And those fake jewels! Tacky? I don't care!
I'm having fun!

This newest lady is not famous, done in fabric and mounted on a canvas.
She started out as a "fierce" lady,

but I jazzed her up and softened her expression.
I like her better this way!

A nor'easter is coming to New England!
Cold and windy outside!
Praying that this storm doesn't add more woes to those already
so badly affected by Hurricane Sandy.

May all stay safe.

AEDM Days 4 and 5

Yesterday, I spent much of the day converting the drawing of my parents into pieces of colored, fused fabric that could be put back together like pieces of a puzzle.

I fused them on to very lightweight interfacing. My next step is to cut out the entire figures and fuse them on to a background fabric. Then I'll make adjustments (my dad's feet are too small!) sew everything down, add details (like faces!) and do background stitching. I'm hoping to have most of this done by the end of the day. Meanwhile, I'm simultaneously working on mounting some pictures I had done previously so that everything is fairly uniform - stretched over stretcher strips.

Hope everyone has a great day!
Hello to my fellow AEDM participants!

See you tomorrow!

AEDM Day 3 - A Frame Makes a Difference

Today I am working away on my stitched pictures, but not quite ready to share yet. But yesterday I did  do some framing of a picture I had made a while ago, and I'm very pleased with the result!

This is an appliquéd picture I've had floating around for a while -
it is shown on my sidebar, fused, but not stitched.

I had this grey-green frame on another picture and decided to try it on this one...

I think it looks great perched on my little kitchen shelf!
I like to switch things up every once in a while!

Hope your day is going well!
See you tomorrow!

AEDM Day 2 -Sweethearts

This is my second time posting for AEDM day 2! I accidentally deleted my first post, along with all of the comments! Fortunately the comments come to me through email, so I can respond to them!

In brief, this is a drawing for a stitched picture I'm making. It's my parents when they were dating in the early 1940's. I've made some adjustments on the photo I took it from and I think I'll be doing it in sepia tones!

More tomorrow!
Enjoy the rest of your day!

Art Every Day Month - Day 1

I'm so happy to be a part of Art Every Day month for another November!! This challenge, which is hosted by Leah Piken Kolidas, is in its 10th year (this is my third).
This November is a month of challenges and deadlines for me, so making art every day is a must. Next week I'm lucky enough to be having an exhibit of my stitched drawings, and this is a sketch I worked on this morning for one of them!

This scan came out light, but I'll be using the sketch for part of a picture which I'll post here, day to day.

Wishing everyone in AEDM lots of inspiration this month!

And I hope that all who read this are enjoying a wonderful day!
