AEDM Day 23 - Quilt Collage Class Update

I had a great time at our class with Amy Ropple Wednesday night.
This is the drawing I'm working from.

Our next step was to trace and number all the pieces that make up the drawing on to freezer paper.
I have 80 pieces! I never thought about that when I was drawing!

After that we were to iron the pieces onto fabric and cut them out.

I never even got to that step, but will do it for 'homework',
since we have no class this coming week.

Amy brought one of her parrots, Cairo, to the class and he sat on her shoulder the entire time,
with only a couple of squawks ! Can you believe his beautiful color?

She also brought more of her own work for inspiration.
Some of these are works in progress. This is one talented lady!!

One last thing - I began 'auditioning' some fabrics for my collage -
what do you think?

Thanks for visiting!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I really enjoyed peaking in on your class (especially the colorful parrot!) The work is beautiful and I hope I get to see what you do with the drawing/pattern you made!

What a lovely and colorful parrot. When I saw that design, I knew you were in for a "fun" time of cutting all those bits and pieces. Freezer paper is wonderful to use for a pattern. I've made a few very, very simple shapes using freezer paper in the past, but nothing elaborate like you have planned. I look forward to seeing where this goes, because you have chosen some gorgeous fabrics.

80 pieces!

I've used this method, and it does seem like busy work for a while, but when you get to the construction, it all comes together so beautifully. (Aren't you glad you have two weeks!!!)

Can't wait to see how it comes along, Judy.

This is going to be fabulous, and well worth the all the "prep", and I know that you will have a great time when you get to embellishing...but all I can say is: better you than me :)

I love the last picture. It would make a great piece all by itself if you could get the flow and glow of the fabric.

I enjoyed seeing the process that you're going through for the quilt. 80 pieces...that is a lot! It will be well worth the effort when you're done. :)

Thanks for taking us through the process. I hope you continue to do so, as I'd like to give this technique a try. Looking forward to seeing your progress. You've got a lovely stash to draw from....

Judy, I love the fabrics you have chosen. And I can hardly wait to see the finished project. What a lot of work! Your drawing is beautiful just by itself. You are one talented and patient lady!

The color of the parrot is unreal.
